Repurposed Designer Jewellery

Do you think a €1,000 Chanel necklace (from it’s jewelry line) is worth the price for what’s basically fake pearls?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS

I have long been captivated by the exquisite beauty of designers costume jewelry. Each season, they unveil a few truly breathtaking pieces. However, I must admit that the price tags attached to these creations also take my breath away. Moreover, I have heard from several friends that many of these pieces do not withstand the test of time and regular use as well as one would hope, considering the pricetag.

Speaking from my personal perspective, I often find that most of designer costume jewelry comes with a substantial price tag that doesn’t always match the value of the product.

In today’s world, where sustainability and unique fashion statements are gaining immense popularity, repurposing old materials into new treasures has become an innovative way to create one-of-a-kind pieces.
Being deeply passionate about designer accessories, the idea struck me in February that perhaps I could embark on a journey of crafting my own designer jewelry. Thus, I began the process of transforming old bag accessories into repurposed, unique designer pieces.

In this blog, we’ll delve into the fascinating journey of how I embarked on the path of recreating repurposed designer jewelry from old bag accessories.

GATHERING MATERIALS

As a girl who has been collecting designer bags for over 7 years now, I have searched on thrift stores, and even asked friends and family for any discarded bags or accessories they no longer used. This process was not only exciting but also helped me realize the abundance of materials available just waiting to be transformed into something beautiful. From zipper charms to keychains and buckles to decorative elements, I was ready to give these forgotten pieces a new lease on life.

CRAFTSMANSHIP AND TECHNIQUES

Creating repurposed designer jewelry requires a mix of craftsmanship, patience, and an eye for detail. I invested time in honing my skills by learning various techniques like wire-wrapping, beadwork, and metalwork. These skills allowed me to not only repurpose the accessories but also combine them with other elements to add a touch of elegance and uniqueness to each piece.

UNIQUENESS AND SUSTAINABILITY

One of the most rewarding aspects of repurposing bag accessories into jewelry is the fact that they are one-of-a-kind . No two jewelry items are alike, as the materials I source have their own history and character. This exclusivity makes the jewelry stand out, allowing the wearer to make a bold fashion statement while contributing to a sustainable and eco-friendly fashion movement.

SHARING THE JOURNEY WITH VILMA'S VAULT

The journey of recreating repurposed designer jewelry from old bag accessories has been nothing short of a transformative experience. It has not only allowed me to channel my creativity but also contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry. With each piece, I’m reminded of the potential hidden in discarded materials and the beauty that can be unveiled through artistry and innovation. As the world continues to embrace sustainability, upcycling, and repurposing, this unique form of jewelry creation stands as a testament to the power of reinvention and the beauty of sustainable fashion.

Hope you enjoyed this blog.

With love,

Vilma
